  • Hi, I am taking part in a charity bike ride from Sydney to Brisbane in October and am really interested in some of the routes or any knowledge you may have about routes. The idea is to ride directly up the coast (not going too far inland) but the guy organising it has not finalised a route yet. If you can pass on any info or let me know when the info becomes available on the app I’d be very appreciative.

    Thanks!

    Hugh

Hi! How is the Brisbane to Sydney going? I have two French friends asking me lots of questions that I cannot answer e.g. what is route 15 Bris to Warwick like? Haven driven some of those roads recently I was more concerned about lots of trucks on narrow roads. Then they want to do part of the coast to Newcastle. Where do I point them for this information please?

Hi Jillian, Brisbane to Sydney is finished. We have the Cyclewayz app which is in the app store. It is a cycling guide book in your phone and has information on where you can find food water accommodation camping and other interesting stuff. The routes use your phone’s GPS to guide you and are chosen to be on quiet roads and cycle paths. Download Cyclewayz and type Brisbane to Sydney in the search function and the route will come up for purchase. Its $7.99. This route is coastal with a few quiet inland sections. To keep away from the traffic don’t go during January or February; do go autumn, winter, spring is perfect upto December and then from March or so. Happy to answer any questions!

  • Hi everyone!
I have downloaded the app already and its great, just a short question: with which kind of bike would you ride the Brisbane – Sydney ride? Could you ride it with a road bike or is a mountain bike recommended?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

H Iris we use Trek hybrids with 35mm Marathon Plus Tyres. I would not recommend a road bike as the tyres are very narrow. But I don’t think you need a really expensive bike either. A good gear range and 35mm tyres should do the trick. A mountain bike would do it easily. good luck and enjoy Angela

    Gday Guys
I have done the Port Macquarie to Sydney part and also Port to South West Rocks a couple of times. If using MTBs a number of beaches on the mid north coast are excellent for riding on at low tide. If planning on going Plomer Rd north of Port Mac, the beach is a good choice because the road is hard work (soft sand) Two hours either side of low tide will probably be the most you can do. Very peaceful, no one around other than the odd fisherman.
Heading south is the best option over the summer months due to the prevailing wind.
You can sometimes get a lift across the Manning river from Harrington to Manning Point with the local boaties, the road then takes you to Old Bar then Saltwater. Another short beach ride will get you to Blackhead then a fire trail through Darawank NP to Tuncurry.
Seal Rocks to Tea Gardens is a designated Walk/cycle track and worth the effort.
I’m going to try Stockton Beach next trip to save riding on Nelson Bay Rd which can get busy.
The Fernleigh rail trail between Newcastle and Belmont is awesome if heading South, all downhill

    • Hi Gary, Thanks for all of your suggestions. They look great!! We will check them out and might email to ask a few questions. We are always looking for new information especially now when we are stuck in regional Victoria. Luckily we have had time to work on our new Networks. Sounds like some of your suggestions will help us to get a network going around Seal Rocks and Newcastle. Agree re Fernleigh Rail Trail – the tunnel is wonderful! Angela

  • Hi, I have purchased the app and we are about to ride Sydney to Byron using the route. Will the three gravel sections be ok for road bikes with 25mm tyres?
